Film Permits

For filming in Vienna official shooting permits are required. The permits are issued by different municipal departments of the Vienna City Administration.

 

1. FILM PERMITS FOR LOCATIONS WITHIN THE SPHERE OF COMPETENCE OF THE VIENNA CITY ADMINISTRATION

For filming in a location that is within the area of responsibility of the Vienna City Administration, please fill out the Application for a film permit. Your application and a letter of recommendation will be forwarded to the relevant municipal department. These are:

2. FILM PERMITS FOR PUBLIC TRAFFIC AREAS

In case of shooting in public traffic areas with the need of stopping restrictions or road blocks, it is necessary to contact: Municipal Department 46 – Traffic Management and Organisation. The team of the VIENNA FILM COMMISSION provides information if you have any further questions about film permits.

SUBMISSION DEADLINES
Applications without on-site inspection: at least ten workdays before the production start date
Applications with on-site inspection: 20 workdays before the production start date
Applications with no parking zones: at least six workdays before the production start date

ON-SITE INSPECTION
On-site inspections are necessary if you plan to shoot in public traffic areas and need to close roads or stop any private or public traffic. The inspection will take place before the production start date.

3. FILMING WITHOUT A PERMIT „TOURISTISCHES AUSMASS“

For shooting on public transport areas under specific circumstances there is a free of charge special permit, the „Touristisches Ausmaß“. In this case no further permits by the MA 46 will be required.

Please fill out the Application for a film permit. The application and a letter of recommendation will be forwarded to the Municipal Department 46.

„Touristisches Ausmaß“ on public traffic areas is defined by the MA 46 as follows:

No interference with traffic, hand held camera or tripod, team of no more than 5 people, no actors or performers, who could be, due to their celebrity status, cause of an accumulation of onlookers which may interfere with traffic. Shootings which exceed these prerequisites require a permit.

 

4. FILMING WITHOUT A PERMIT „AKTUELLER DIENST“

Filming on a daily basis for media like TV, radio, news services and press will not require a permit. It is required to contact the relevant municipal department. For any further questions the VIENNA FILM COMMISSION provides information.
