Wolfgang Pichler and Christine Schlachter of the MA 60 – Veterinary Board and Animal Protection gave information on the procedures for filming with animals.
Any participation or use of animals in film recordings requires an official authorization.
It is essential for the application to submit a detailed description of the procedure and conditions for the animals. For example information about the circumstances of the filming location, transport, type of cage, run for animals, type and length of the scenes etc. are essential.
The lead time for an application is at least 6 weeks. In order to prevent delays in granting authorization by means of changes, it is possible to request the permit for a longer period of time. This is also possible over several months.
A responsible person (e. g. animal trainer) with a permanent basic permit is recommended.
